About Meteor Galleries
Who: About the Author
| You really want to know about Meteor Galleries? Ok! You asked. =P. Meteor Galleries is the project of one programmer who goes by the name "zerospace". You may have seen me lurking on anime-related forums and sometimes computer-related ones, too. So why did I create Meteor Galleries? Because I like hosting my own gallery, and got sick and tired of using software written by someone else that didn't have the features I wanted. So... Meteor was originally made for me. But, I decided to make it available to anyone else who wanted to use it. I guess I felt that if I was going to go through the trouble, I might as well let others use it, too! ^_^

Why: Origins
So how did Meteor really come to be? I dreamed the idea up after a nasty support session with another programmer. I was using his image gallery software to run my gallery, and somehow I ran into a weird problem. Now it was actually MY fault (I didn't realize it at the time), but he bit my head off--I'm guessing because he spends too much time offering support to the ungrateful masses for his publicly licensed software. So that was it. I was done with using other people's stuff and ready to do my own thing. I then asked for input on a private forum about features, and got a lot of great suggestions, most of which I've already incorporated into the program. More features are always in the works, however!
What: Naming MG
I guess the final question that should be answered is regarding the program's name--Meteor Galleries. The name is derived from my obvious dear love for my first anime--Gundam Wing. In the series, the plot revolves around a rebellion's plan called "Operation Meteor", hence the "Meteor" part of the program's name. Simple, really!
When: Past, Present, and Future
I do plan to update the program as often as possible, especially to address new problems that arise, but by no means do I intend to spend every waking hour of my life solving everyone's problems. Which is why if you want support, you have to donate. I know that sounds horrible, but I spent months writing this software originally (and many more months updating it), and I wrote it originally for my own use. While I love helping others, I can forsee hours of frustration as I work with people who want all the benefits of using my software but want to put forth no effort in really learning how to use it, so all I ask is a little respect, please. If you can do that, I'll help you as much as I am able ^_~. You wanted to know the reason for the program's existence, so I told you. Now for the GOOD stuff. Meteor Galleries is a pretty powerful and versatile program the way its been written. I have only more plans to make it more versatile and more customizable--new features are added with each update (and I DO take requests for new features seriously!)
Moving forward: What you can expect in the future
I plan only to make this program grow and evolve as both my own needs evolve as well as my progamming knowledge (one can never learn enough). So if you're an early adopter of the software, don't forget to check back for updates. You just might get some cool new toys for your site.
Why is this button on every page? Isn't it obvious we want you to donate? Yes. I think so. |
