Meteor Galleries is intended for use by those who collect Japanese animation artwork -- but other collectors may also want to use it. It is designed to be as user-friendly as possible, while allowing more freedom than the traditional choices for maintaining a gallery web site.
As many of my fellow collectors may well know, maintaining one's own gallery on a regular web site can be a rather daunting task. Updates are often extremely time-consuming and tedious, as thumbnail creation and HTML page writing takes a lot of time when you're adding a lot of artwork. Meteor Galleries seeks to simplify all of that, while allowing you to remain on your own web hosting with far more control over the look of your own site.
Meteor Galleries may not be for everyone. While I will strive to make it as easy to install and use as possible, some knowledge of web technologies is often required. If you like to modify things heavily, a good working knowledge of SQL and PHP are required, or just the brains and guts to try things (and hopefully have backup copies of old files in case you mess it up!) All that is really needed to create a template all your own, is a little HTML and CSS knowledge--and with the newest template editor, you barely even need THAT anymore!
Meteor Galleries version 2.5 is FINISHED!!
Way ahead of schedule, v2.5 is finished! I thought for sure the docs would take me until the end of this week to complete, but I actually pulled it off early. Woo! So here's v2.5! Everything SHOULD function properly, but inevitably each time I do this, I end up having a few minor bugs to fix, so don't hestitate to use the contact form in the event of a problem. If you're updating from v2.0 to v2.5, I recommend HIGHLY that you copy the contents of the new config folder LAST or at the same time as the rest of your files due to weird errors your visitors might encounter if they happen to be browsing at the time of your update.
